Info for the State of NM DOT's NM502 Reconstruction & Roundabout Project...

Star Paving is wrapping up work on this project and expects to conclude the work July 2021.

Here is a project drawing showing what the NM502 Roundabout will look like when completed (furnished to the County by the State of NM DOT)

Nearby projects:

Repaving of NM502 from Tewa Lp east to County Line
The roadway is in need of repaving and the State DOT anticipates that project will occur this year.

N3B - TA-21 Clean Up
N3B and their contractor are working in 2021 on an environmental remediation/clean up project at the former TA-21 site (far eastern edge of DP Rd).

N3B - Middle DP Rd
Investigative work on land parcels along DP Rd.

Here is the N3B website for details on this project.

Future DP Road Infrastructure

The County installed the first part of infrastructure for the DP Road area in 2020, and is continuing to design the infrastructure work in 2021. Construction would begin in 2022. Additional land parcels will become available for development after the TA-21 remediation is completed. These parcels are part of DOE Land Transfers that could be used for future light industrial or residential development. The long-term plan is for infrastructure to extend to the TA-21 site as a "spine" for future development on the north and south side of the road. DP Road needs to be upgraded to include basic infrastructure that could be used by existing or new businesses or homes. For example, there is currently no sewer line in this area. The County Council approved funding for this project for FY21, and Wilson and Company is the consultant for the design of the project. A meeting was held with DP Rd businesses on April 21, 2021 to brief them on the project. Individual meetings were held with DP Rd businesses the week of May 10, 2021. A public meeting about the project has been scheduled on June 3, 2021 in conjunction with the T-Board meeting (5:30 p.m. on Zoom). The meeting will include details and alternatives for planning along the DP Rd area.

SHOW YOUR SUPPORT, LOS ALAMOS!
Construction can be difficult and present special challenges for businesses caught in the construction zones and related/adjacent areas. Motorists tend to avoid orange barrel zones and this can have significant economic impacts on businesses. Los Alamos has many small, locally-owned and operated restaurants, specialty shops and stores on the eastern edge of Los Alamos. The County encourages residents and visitors to support local businesses, especially those on DP Road, which will likely be impacted by the construction. Other businesses at Entrada Business Park, East Gate, along Trinity/Knecht (Mari Mac and Smith's Marketplace and further west on Trinity) as well as those on Central Avenue may likely be impacted, too. The County is working with MainStreet and the Chamber of Commerce to find ways to mitigate impacts and support them, but your help is urgently needed! Allow extra time for patronizing these businesses, but please don't shy away just because of construction! They need your help to continue to operate all of your favorite and valued restaurants, shops and other small businesses to be able to provide you great products and services.
