MESA PUBLIC LIBRARY TO CONTINUE MANY SERVICES AND PROGRAMS DURING IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

Mesa Public Library in Los Alamos will undergo extensive renovations beginning August 20, as contractors replace lighting and air handling equipment throughout the building. More than 95 percent of the building will be closed during the construction, but a small area of the building is set aside to be open to the public as an access point for library services. Patrons will not be allowed into the stacks during the project, due to poor air quality and possible safety hazards.

The White Rock Branch Library will maintain normal operations, with additional staff to serve the public. Hours at the White Rock Branch Library will remain the same: open 10 to 9, Monday through Thursday, 10 to 6 on Fridays, 10 to 5 on Saturdays and noon to 5 on Sundays.

The open area at Mesa Public Library, called the Zone, will house staff, a limited selection of books and DVDs, the library’s technical services department, and shelving for “hold” items. Library patrons will be able to pick up holds at either branch, depending on their preference. The Zone will be open to the public beginning Tuesday, August 21: from noon to 7 on Mondays, 10 to 7 Tuesday through Thursday, 10 to 6 on Fridays, 10 to 5 on Saturdays and noon to 5 on Sundays.

A small children’s library will be set up in the upstairs classroom at Fuller Lodge, beginning on August 21. The children’s library will include DVDs and books. It will be open for browsing 10 to 1, Monday through Friday. Children’s programs such as Music and Movement will generally be held in the Pajarito Room at Fuller Lodge beginning September 4, through the duration of the closure, which is expected to be completed in early December.
