Engineering

The Engineering & Project Management Division’s mission is to provide safe, reliable and sustainable municipal infrastructure in a fiscally and environmentally responsible manner utilizing technical and administrative expertise in the study, design and construction of capital improvement projects. The Division provides professional services in the areas of engineering, surveying, architecture, and project management through in-house and contracted resources. Such services also include financial, budget and grant management; procurement and contract management; scheduling; cost estimating; public involvement; asset management; and construction management and inspection. The Division provides leadership and participates in the planning, development, technical review and oversight of multimodal transportation improvements, storm water and floodplain management, land development, pavement management, survey and mapping, and facility improvements including new buildings, renovations and major facility maintenance projects. The Division collaborates with a variety of constituents and stakeholders including County residents and businesses, Council, Boards and Commissions, various County departments, state and federal agencies, and various public and private partners to provide infrastructure that meets the community’s needs.

ADA Grievance Procedures is established to meet the requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 ("ADA").  It may be used by anyone who wishes to file a complaint alleging discrimination on the basis of disability in the provision of services, activities, programs, or benefits by the Los Alamos County. 

ADA Policy Statement in accordance with the requirements of title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 ("ADA"), Los Alamos County will not discriminate against qualified individuals with disabilities on the basis of disability in its services, programs, or activities.

ADA Transition Plan provides a path towards compliance with current accessibility standards, more specifically, as it relates to pedestrian features within the street right of way. The plan contains a detailed evaluation and analysis of the existing curb ramps and sidewalk facilities throughout the two population centers of the County, Los Alamos Townsite and White Rock. It also discusses the various improvement programs utilized by the County to fund ongoing ADA improvements including methods to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and standards.

Bicycle Transportation Plan was adopted by Council on June 27, 2017. The Plan's purpose and overall goal is to help advance a bicycle friendly environment where residents and visitors alike can enjoy a transportation system that encourages and empowers use of a bicycle as a key form of transportation.  

Pedestrian Transportation Plan was developed in 1998. This Pedestrian Transportation Plan provides the needed guidance for Los Alamos County to get back on track and provide a community where residents and visitors will choose walking as a mode of transportation.

Canyon Rim Trail Master Plan was developed in 2011 and the County is currently engaged in the development in these projects.

Resolution 10-32 is the policy for the design of public streets and rights-of-way in Los Alamos County.

Public Works Design and Construction Standards Rev. Sept 2008, These standards present criteria for use in the design and construction of municipal Public Works infrastructure in the County of Los Alamos, NM. This material is intended for use by qualified design professionals familiar with municipal infrastructure. Clarifications of these standards may be obtained from the County Engineer.

National Flood Insurance Program Los Alamos County is a participant in this program. If you require information on this program or have floodplain related questions, please contact the office of the County Engineer for assistance.

Pavement Management Analysis Report Nationwide, billions of dollars have been invested in roadway networks by municipal, state, and federal governments.

Title VI Plan The Incorporated County of Los Alamos (“County”) is committed to compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, 49 CFR, part 21, and all related regulations and directives. The County assures that no person shall, on the grounds of race, color, national origin, gender, age, or disability be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity under any County program, activity or service.

2017 LANL LID Standards - The goal of the LID Standards is to provide guidance on the planning, design, construction and maintenance of green infrastructure (GI) features at Los Alamos National Laboratory.  The success of LID at LANL is dependent on maintaining a consistent approach to achieve effective application, operation, and maintenance of these storm water control features.
