Chapter 40: Utilities, Article III: Rates & Charges

RESIDENTIAL

ELECTRIC

$0.1152 per Kilowatt-hour (variable commodity charge)

Fixed Service Charge = $12.00


LA GREEN Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) Program

Subscriptions (an additional charge on top of existing electric charges):

$0.50 for one block (100 kilowatt-hours) per month. Customers can purchase one or more blocks as long as it does not exceed 90 percent of the minimum monthly usage from the previous 12 months.

                        or

$0.005 (half a cent) per kilowatt-hour for 90 percent
of the monthly electric consumption.

GAS

The cost of gas is calculated on a monthly basis and is effective the 8th of each month. The gas rate schedule and calculation documents are at the bottom of this page. If you need assistance calculating your bill, please contact the Customer Care Center for assistance.

LA GREEN Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) Program

Percentage level choices are 1 percent, 2 percent, 3 percent, 5 percent, 10 percent, 50 percent or 90 percent.

Each month's sewer charge is composed of the fixed service charge plus the variable commodity charge times the lesser of the following two usage computations:

1) Winter Average - If water consumption for any current month is higher than the winter average, sewer usage is determined by the winter average plus 8%. The winter measuring period is defined as the three consecutive billing periods beginning with the billing period with a billing date in the month of December.

OR

2) Actual Water Consumption - If water consumption for any current month is lower than the winter average, sewer usage is determined by actual water consumption plus 8%. Minimum water consumption is set at 2,000 gallons.



ADDITIONAL FEES & CHARGES

SERVICE CHARGES

Service charges (as listed on the residential and commercial rates pages) appear on the statement as "Customer Charges." These are applied each month on active services. Customer charges are pro-rated on the first and final billings. Monthly Customer Charges are billed even if there is no usage on the meter.


TAXES

Applicable taxes are applied as follows:
Electric 7.0625% gross receipts tax
Gas 7.0625% gross receipts tax
Water 5.00% governmental gross receipts tax
Sewer 5.00% governmental gross receipts tax
Refuse 5.00% governmental gross receipts tax


TRANSFER FEE

A $10.00 fee will be charged when a new account is requested.


DEPOSIT ON METERS

Commercial Customers Only - Commercial customers, without exception are required to pay a deposit based on the two highest bills at the current location.

REFUSE

DPU provides billing services for Los Alamos County's Environmental Services but does not fund or participate in Environmental Services operations.  Rates for weekly trash and recycling collection, as well as many other residential and commercial collection services and fees are determined by Environmental Services.
